Collaboration with LEGO

We maintain an ongoing relationship with the LEGO Company, acting mostly as design consultants and exerting more or less influence depending on the project. We’re also learning Danish (very slowly).

LEGO MINDSTORMS

Released in 1998, the LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotic Invention Kit is based on research and ideas from the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, which Brian was part of.

LEGO WeDo

PICO helped design the easy programming language for the LEGO Education WeDo Construction Set, which introduces young students to robotics by enabling them to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors.

It even works in zero gravity environments.

LEGO Universe

The now defunct LEGO Universe was a massive multi-player online game in which the players, acting as LEGO figures, completed a series of missions within a virtual universe.

PICO was involved in the design of the Universe Behaviors.

While working on the Wedo and Universe projects, we were fortunate enough to work closely with Mads Purup, Ronny Scherer and Shane Clements. We are happy to say they have all become close friends and fellow travelers.

LEGO Modular Playware Technology

Through this interdisciplinary project, LEGO, with the help of PICO, is developing the intelligent LEGO block of the future.

It mixes the latest technology and modular robotics to engineer playware technology that allows for immediate interaction and adapts to the desires of the young user.
