Tivoli Lights

In 2015 Scratch teamed up with Google’s CS First and the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen to create dynamic light displays designed by students in Denmark. Using software designed by PICO, the students were able to program animated light displays. The language used was a block based programming language similar to Scratch. Students from 3 schools from across Denmark and a coding club participated in the project and at the end got to see the animations that they programmed light up the Tivoli Gardens during the Christmas season.

The displays used were 2 by 4 meters wide with a grid of 12 by 24 lights. The limited amount of pixels was enough to allow for a variety of projects, but limited enough to promote out of the box thinking on the part of the students.
